My favorite place in Alaska is Anchorage. I love this city for its great culinary and arts scene while only a quick 15-minute drive from the wilderness. Anchorage also has a world-class trail system within the city limits, and we have much less rain than the rainforest areas to the southeast and milder winter temperatures than the Interior region.
In the summer I love to golf. The Anchorage Golf Course is a real hidden gem. I also love to surf the bore tide of the Turnagain Arm and bike the single-track trails of Kincaid Park and Hillside Park. And in the winter, I love to ski and snowboard at Alyeska Resort and ride the Anchorage trail system on my fat tire bike. My dog, Hank, especially loves joining me on bike rides.
The most interesting aspect of my life right now is learning to be a father to my seven-month-old son, Max. I look forward to sharing what I’ve learned with him as he grows up and providing him a foundation to live a full and interesting life.
Also compelling for me is the goal to be a constantly-better business owner, because good business involves so much more than just making a profit. I find a lot of creative joy in the process of building and running a sustainable, well-respected small business.
Andy Warhol once said “Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art.” I hope to keep living my life with a sense of purpose and to be a force for good in the world.
